Who Am I?

This is ME

There’s a bit of a story behind my name…for those born around my time and familiar with Trinidad's history may find it familiar. 

The story goes something like this….on July 17^th 1977, Janelle Penny Commissiong, won the Miss Universe title.  She was the first ever Trinidadian and Black woman to win the title - this was quite an accomplishment for all of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinbagonians were beside themselves with pride, joy and excitement.   Janelle was loved and adored by all and maybe idolised others.  

On July 1^st a year later…I came into the world …my dad,  who was in love with Janelle or maybe it was that he was one of those who idolised her....named me Janelle Penny and as my mom said, if he could have given me the "Commissiong" he would have! 

I surmised it must have been a very familiar story as throughout my school years I was never the only Janelle in my class….at one point there were three of us…so we were all called by our last name. I have been in the field of communications for the past nine years and a student at the College of Science Technology & Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) for the past three years.  Currently, I am in my final year on the road to completing my Bsc. Mass Communications.

This is my first blog ever....which turned out to be a class assignment for my Social Media Communications class.  The objective, in addition to learning to use social media purposefully, is to improve some aspect of self.

I have chosen to experience new things and maybe kick some of my fears in the process.  I am yet to ride a motor cycle,  pet a snake,  conquer my fear of heights among other things....can't wait to see what the next few months brings!
