The magic happens...

Ever wondered where the magic happens...take a look!

Bearing it All???

We all have hang up about our physical appearance.  It's been said that we are our greatest critic, that we see things far more negative than someone looking in, that our hang ups are self-manufactured....and these self-manufactured hang ups, keep us from doing things we really want to do,  or from things we enjoy doing...like go to the beach and wearing a bikini or doing a photon shoot, going to events, wearing something we like...and the list can go on and on.

I decided, after tremendous convincing to, in spite of my hang ups to do a photo shoot - it promised to be safe, tastefully done and fun.

Agreeing to do this meant that I had to let go...or at least shelve the negative perceptions that I held onto about my body image.  It meant that I had to come out of my comfort zone...out of the box that I live in, in order to experience this photo shoot the way it would need to be experienced.  I am not good at having the focus placed on me...and this is exactly what was required of me.  Could I do this?  Am I ready for something like this? Is this just too much for me?

I convinced myself otherwise, and the outcome turned out to be awesome...I was pleasantly surprised and motivated.  Motivated to do another shoot sometime in the near future,  motivated to get back on track with my wellness activities and to hit the gym!

Sometimes...removing yourself from your comfort zone, as uncomfortable as it can be,  can lead you to a place of breakthroughs...

So....this is the outcome.....what do you think?

Covered in glitter...bearing it all or not!

Importance of trying new things....

It's important to try new things to keep life interesting!  Here are some simple ways you can try...

It's Brand New....Meet Alexander the Great!!!

I think most of us starts off somewhere at the bottom of the ladder with the understanding that we have to work out way up to the top.  This I think, holds truth to other areas of our lives,  for instance, our living accommodations - we understand that we would have to move out from under our parents, that we may have to rent for a while before we are in a position to become a home owner.   Similarly,  we acknowledge that when we get our driver's permit we may not be in the position to purchase a brand new vehicle (which really may not be the wisest thing for a newbie on the road to do), that we would,  in most cases, start of with a second, third or even a forth hand car!  We accept this, with the understanding that one day we will be in a position to do better...so we continue to forge to the top to achieve.

I honestly feel that words are very powerful because it plays a significant role in the reality that we create for ourselves.  The first time I saw the Ford Ranger Trucks I remembered thinking to myself "I want one of this...and I'm gonna buy one one day!".  I remember going to the company and getting one of the brochures...picking out the colour I wanted, the interior etc. At the time I was not in a financial position,  nor was I confident enough to go after this....but I knew I would own one one day...

Having driven a Ford vehicle before and having a very fulfilling and pleasant experience, I was very much open to owning another one,  but before that would become reality I had to experience a few others...

I started off with King Arthur (my Ford Focus and first love), then there was King Solomon (my Honda CRV),  then my faithful old King David (my Nissan Priarie, who was a loan vehicle from my bestie)...yes yes...I name my vehicles...and they are ALL Kings!!!!

I remember when I chose David's name, a friend said to me "No eh, you don't want a King David...as much as he was a phenomenal king, faithful and all that...he was old no ass and had plenty concubines!".  But I had already put that into the universe and loved the name so David it was going to be!!!  What's funny is that I had no clue who David would be...and true to form he was old and phenomenal and served me faithfully.  When this happened, I realised that I had called David into reality, so I said ok its time to call something of grandeur into being....and so the creation of King Alexander the Great begun...

King Alexander the Great!
Again, I started with the end in mind, not having a clue what the outcome was going to be other than the fact that grandeur was guaranteed!   So, when I started looking at purchasing a vehicle,  I said it was time to for something brand new...straight out of the showroom!  I had forgotten completely about wanting the Ford Ranger then, een though I was looking in the truck category.  I started off looking at the new Nissan Frontier...the DMax,...which at the time was the most economical.  But I tell you, what is meant to meant can never not be...

At that time,  vehicle sales started to ramp up , almost everything was on sale.  I saw that there was a sale on Ford Rangers and the price hd dropped.  I thought to myself "I don't think this is within my budget, but it wont kill to check it out". A friend and I visited the showroom and I was surprise to find that the Ranger fell smack dead into my budget with the sale price!!!

The company said I was one of the fastest close...it took two weeks from the day I walked into the showroom to simply take a look,  to the day I drove out with my very own King Alexander the Great!!!!  When its meant to be...it will happen without hiccups or stress.

Be careful with your words...they create your reality....use them to bring new and exciting experiences into reality!

FINALLY...for the first time

I finally did it!  I finally drove a jet ski...and my driving skills on and off the water seems to be on par lol.

Fun in the sun in Tobago

Attempting this,  my biggest fear was falling off the jet ski while it was moving at any speed above 10km and obviously drowning, and yes this fear was predominant in spite of the fact that I was fully equipped with a life jacket!  In one of my earlier blogs Wakeboarding for the first time... I mentioned that I am a aquaphobia so the idea of deep water scares the heck out of me but at the same time I absolutely love anything that involves driving/racing.

My first few attempts involved me holding on to someone as they drove,  which as you can imagine was not at all comfortable for me...I held on for dear life and screamed all the way, nevertheless,  it was on one of these attempts that fear lost his grip on me.

Fun in the sun with my girls!
There are some fears that is really over rated and needs to be conquered - this was definitely one of them.  It was exactly like in the movies...you hit the water hard, screaming your lungs out..out of fear...you only see blue water and the sunlight seeping through....and everything goes quiet...everything...and its the most freeing feeling ever and as you come up for air and realize that you're in the deep you start to panic!

Yup...I most definitely conquered my fear of falling off that jet ski and it was the best thing that happened to me because what I realized is that once I had experienced that fall the fear just vanished into thin air...and that's when the adventurous side of me came to life...that's when I actually drove the jet sky all by myself!

The experience was exciting, exhilarating and so much fun...I've learnt that we only fear what we don't know ...so its safe to say,  the more new things we try the less we will fear!

First Time Purging?

Clutter seems to accumulate effortlessly but somehow it requires great effort to de-clutter…unless you are forced to do so in a rather creative way.

I was forced to, when I got up at 5.oo a.m. to a completely flooded house.  Wednesday morning, I got up at 1.30 a.m. thereabout, for some reason I could not go back to sleep. As I laid on my bed, I heard what sounded like rain, so I remained under the covers until it was time to get up to get ready for work, never questioning the legitimacy of my conclusion.  As I swung my legs off the bed, and hopped off the bed, there was a splash and I was standing in almost 2 feet of water!

As I made my way out of the bedroom I realised that the source of the water flow came from the bathroom.  Immediately my mind started working overtime trying to determine how this catastrophe happened…what did I do or not do. I recalled coming home the evening before to “dry” taps, which it appeared, was the case for most of the day if not all.  I remembered it was the bathroom tap that I opened when I discovered the dried taps, it must have been that I forgot to close the tap back…or maybe I just took for granted that water would not return…

Now routines and habits are a heck of a thing…and those are the shit that my evenings are made of.  There are certain things that I have grown accustom to doing which has become second nature to me.  I never had to consider the consequences those routines and habits would have should something like this happened….not until I had to!

When I get home on evenings, after the usual stuff…eat, shower…relax…I get into my assignments which require me using my laptop…the laptop which I leave on the rug in the living room charging for the next day…get the picture?

Earlier in the week I was on the hunt for my passport, took out my accordion file with all my personal documents and intended to put it back where it belonged but it remained on the rug in the living room too! Yup…

I swept water throughout the entire house for at least 4 hours, had to solicit help to get the rug out the house and furniture removed in order to complete the task at hand.  By the time I was done I threw out four, maybe five bags of rubbish which consisted of bank statements from 2012 all the way to 2015, pay slips for the past four years, receipts for items I brought over the years,  school papers and assignments from secondary school and a few other items I can’t recall.

I was forced to de-clutter my living space, something I had intended to do, at different times throughout the years but never got around to it….and obviously kept adding to it!  Now that I have, it’s so much clearer and spacious, easy to move around and more pleasing to the eyes.

Flooded corridor!!!
I am not sure, now that it’s all gone, why I held on to all that crap for as long as I have…they were things that were no longer useful to me or my future, things that no longer added value in any way, things that I out grew over the years, memories that I no longer enjoyed in some cases…but yet I continued to make place for them.

I think that we as humans accumulate things…different things that seem important to us at the point in time; things that are sentimental in nature or just represents an era in our lives…and while that is important, it is also important to remember that every day we experience new things, met new people, create new memories and find new things that represent us or things that become important to us for one reason or the other….if we don’t rid ourselves of the old stuff, the stuff that no longer add value to our lives, we can never have room for the new things that can.

Having de-cluttered my physical space (by force) it’s time to make new memories…experience new things!

My First Real Experience with Science

I don't know about you but I always had two subjects that, well if I say I got low grades for,  that would be a gross under statement...Maths and Science was never my cup of tea. Went through my school years and always found a way to escape Science....Maths not so much...but Science I always found a way out...until recently.

So a few years ago I decided that my life wasn't complicated enough...that having a social life, being able to go to the gym, maintain a healthy diet and enjoy my alone time wasn't the way to go....it was time to get serious and qualify myself in the field I currently work in!

I enrolled myself at the College of Science, Technology & Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) in the BSc. Mass Communications Program. Now you have understand Costaatt's degrees are very holistic in nature so that when you complete the program you are not only knowledgeable about your specific field of studies but also about History, Introduction to Sociology, Psychology, Comparative Literature, Religion and the list goes on. I must say that most of these core courses I find enjoyable because my interactions with them in the past has been limited and in some cases I had no prior knowledge.

This semester I came face to face with Natural Sciences, there were no more avoiding this...I just had to man up and deal with it!  Its primarily meant to be an introduction to all the various areas of sciences...physics, biology, integrated science etc.  all of which I never had much interest in, now however,  I had to muster up some degree of interest if I wanted to pass this course....and since failure has never been an option to me...I had to change my perspective and develop a tolerance level for this thing called Science....sighhh

Four journals, one group assignment, numerous TedED videos and PPTs later...and I have to say this Science thing is growing on me....let's see how the semester ends shall we...
